The side effects of Nebido can include those of an androgenic nature. The androgenic side effects of Nebido are, however, highly dependent on genetic predispositions and will not affect all men. The possible androgenic side effects of Nebido include accelerated hair loss in those predisposed to male pattern baldness, acne in sensitive individuals and body hair growth.
While by no means always necessary, some men may find the use of a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor to be useful. The testosterone hormone is metabolized by the 5-alpha reductase enzyme, which reduces the testosterone hormone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The DHT is what leads to the androgenic related effects. By incorporating a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, you will reduce the hormones androgenicity. It will not be a complete reduction, but it will be significant. However, such inhibitors are not always recommended and should only be used as needed as they can hinder the potency of the testosterone hormone.
Like other medications, spironolactone can cause any number of undesirable side effects that should be reported to a doctor immediately. However, a 2002 study conducted by the University of Toronto on the use of spironolactone to treat acne indicated that of 91 women who were followed over the course of 8 years, none developed a serious health conditions due to spironolactone use. Fifty-nine percent of women reported side effects, mainly irregular menstrual periods and symptoms related to the drug’s diuretic properties. Researchers concluded that spironolactone appears to be a safe long-term treatment for adult acne in women.
Virtually every adolescent has a few “spots”, however, about 15% of the adolescent population have sufficient problems to seek treatment . In most patients, but not all, the acne clears up by the late teens or early 20s. More severe acne tends to last longer. A group of patients have persistent acne lasting up to the age of 30 to 40 years, and sometimes beyond. Patients with persistent acne often have a family history of persistent acne. Acne may scar - most of the time this is preventable by using the correct treatment given in a timely fashion.
